A friend of mine Jason gave me some vintage glass he found under some trees he was cutting down this summer. This guy had stored the contents of a east coast lighting company from the turn of the last century in an open feild 20+ years ago. Most of the steel from the gas lamps, and indoor fixtures had rusted away, but the brass and glass survived. I had to soak these shades in vinegar to get the news print they were wrapped in from the 1930’s off. Great ads! Next time I go up there I’m going to spend more time looking though what he saved.
These were made for my wife Kyrsten’s birthday. It only took me 10 years to finally hang lights in our bathroom.
Frosted scallops on the glass shade.

Rivets to hold the forged steel layers together of the wall sconce.
In addition to making strange fire stuff and art cars I do make some wonderful, practical, safe things for your home. Here is a coat rack I designed for my Company Form & Reform.
The mythological god Pan, a playful and mischievous character, had the torso of a man and the legs of a goat. The graceful and playful lines of the legs on this line made me think of him immediately. We use hammer and anvil to forge steel into these life like leg shapes, combined with textured bar. Why not bring a touch of myth and mischief into your life?

This shot is from a few years back. The driver took off before we had the load of strap off the truck and ever so gently the forklift just kept going over till the forks hit the ground. We tied my jeep to the back with most of the original load still on it and pulled it back over.
Ancient techniques used on a turn of the century design for a modern version of the hospital bed.
I hand forged each section giving this simple streamlined design hand hammered textural details. A hospital bed is specifically designed to facilitate convalescence, traditionally in a hospital or nursing facility, but increasingly in other settings, such as a private residence. In 1987 I founded Form & Reform a hand-forged furniture and accessories blacksmith shop. Steel, fire, glass, wood, and a passion for craft and excellence infuse every item we make. From the heat of the forges to the cool precision of our artisans, we endeavor to produce furniture of a quality that you would be proud to bequest to your children, and will last long enough to make the journey.

A little old-fashioned with plenty of style, the Vera tables and shelves serve as great display pieces in groups or individually. The solid 3/4″ thick, ecologically sustainable, plantation-raised hardwood tops are a natural Cherry color and coated with a durable polyurethane specially created for restaurant use. You can find two of our popular shelving units, the Oval Shelf and Stand, in the Vera line as well as tables.

I started out my metalworking career designing and making furniture for my company Form & Reform. 20 plus years later I’m still selling those same timeless designs. I developed a method of forging pipe with a power hammer without crushing it and here is a wonderful example of simple, functional furniture by Me.

This show looks so good that I’ve decided to break my promise to never do another trade show. The Acre show is April 26-28 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
I’m really excited to see all my old wholesale customers and meet new ones!
One of the many things I do is run a furniture company called Form & Reform. I started it in 1987 after I moved out here from Idaho. I had experience in metal work from high school and learned blacksmithing though the California Blacksmith Association. I’ve really enjoyed all the years of running this business and the experience it has brought. I now can’t help myself to make a smooth to the touch edge on everything I make even if I know no one will ever touch it.
