Kyrsten and I had the pleasure of giving the bride and groom a Giant Iron present for the day that included the Snail car, the fire spewing Boiler Bar and fire gardens.
We finally got the weather to cooperate enough for us to install the Fire Garden we finished a few weeks back for a family in the bay area. The back yard turned out great and has more plumbing and electrical wiring than my whole house! With 3 radiant heaters and my fire garden even on the coldest days there is a warm spot in this back yard. The Corten steel we made the box out of should patina nicely over time.
I left a one inch gap around the box to keep the cement from getting too hot and spalding. The textured steel gave the box a hand made look to contrast the square straight lines of the design.
What a wonderful wedding these two had! I felt so privileged to drive them around for the afternoon. Music, a bucket of champagne, the wind in their hair and fire! Justin commented on how surreal it all was.
I just finished this great back yard fire garden for a family in the bay area. The box is made of corten weathering steel and the rail is made of Stainless. The whole box will sit down in a stained concert box built into teariest hillside behind their home. I’ll post more pictures once it’s installed.
Neiman Marcus has their new “Christmas Book” catalog out and the over the top gift this year is my friends cup cakes cars. All the money spent on these goes to the artist! Tell all your friends!
Update: Electric cupcakes will be featured on the Today Show, Oct 14th 2009. Not sure what time, but they will be in Rockefeller Plaza.

Put on your matching hat, slip under the muffin top of your Cupcake Car, and let the world figure itself out for awhile. Get (or give) the sheer, joyful chaos of a gift that is mind-blowing, triple-dog-dare, double-infinity forever cool. Make the kids or grandkids literally squeal with joy. Bring it to work and buzz the breakroom. Crash parades! Putter about the ‘hood. Ever had a crowd of kids chasing after you just for the crazy gleeful heck of it? (No worries, the top speed is a comfy-safe 7 mph.) What’s it made of? A 24-volt electric motor, a heavy-duty battery, sheet metal, wire, fabric, wood…and mad genius. Launched at Burning Man as a cooperative art car project, the Cupcake Car sprang from the fevered mind of Bay Area artist Lisa Pongrace and her less-rules-more-laughs posse of artists and techno geeks. Yours will be tricked out with your favorite topping, so start thinking flavors.

I spent last weekend with my friends and family at the California Blacksmith Ass. Oktoberfest. We had a great time talking shop, drinking, eating, sitting by the fire and forging metal. I love this group of people. I’m glad to see as I grow older there is still a place for my daughter to camp and play with a group of people just like when I was a kid. DIY is how you get things done for most of these smiths. Thanks!

I’ve taken the trilobite to Burning Man, Handcar Regatta with lots of kids, but CBA blacksmith’s were by far the most play hard group of all.Andy was our demonstrator for the weekend and put us all to shame with his hard work despite our attempts to calm him with our home brewed concoctions.

What a wonderful day we had in the hot summer sun playing with our favorite friends on the Front Porch. Plenty of Maple syrup and home made ginger beer with cookies right from the oven…Yum! And All the while great bands were keeping our toes tapping.
