I was approached by Gary Friedman and his team from restoration Hardware this year to design a group of lights for them. Gary and the team had eaten at Camino restaurant in Oakland CA and liked the lights I had done for them. I ended up designing 11 lights for RH for the fall catalog.
These production lights are beautifully crafted, well designed and very affordable.
If you’re interested in a uniquely designed and crafted light just for you please contact me. jon at formandreform dot com
My custom work is made right here in West Oakland in my shop Form & Reform. Each piece is signed and made to make your space uniquely yours. Here is some of the custom lighting I have done.

The CBA is a wonderful organization that shares the tradition of blacksmithing. It’s not often we get to have it so close to the Bay Area. If you have interest in starting, or want to learn more this is the event for you. This group will share everything they know and teaching stations will be setup everyday of the event.

This Ceiling fixture gives off wonderful contrasts of light. The optical illusion of floating frames and handmade texture make this fixture both intriguing and beautiful.
This simple single bulb light with a Bakelite socket reminds me of simpler times before we had several thousand watts of light in every room. Turn this light on, sit by the radio with a cup of tea and enjoy it’s warmth before bed.
Hand forged chain take this simple light to a new level.

I started out my metalworking career designing and making furniture for my company Form & Reform. 20 plus years later I’m still selling those same timeless designs. I developed a method of forging pipe with a power hammer without crushing it and here is a wonderful example of simple, functional furniture by Me.
Cattail Candle Holder
9″x9″x61″
Made of thick pipe and a solid metal base, this hand forged Cattail Candleholder will last for generations.

More furniture I make
This show looks so good that I’ve decided to break my promise to never do another trade show. The Acre show is April 26-28 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
I’m really excited to see all my old wholesale customers and meet new ones!
One of the many things I do is run a furniture company called Form & Reform. I started it in 1987 after I moved out here from Idaho. I had experience in metal work from high school and learned blacksmithing though the California Blacksmith Association. I’ve really enjoyed all the years of running this business and the experience it has brought. I now can’t help myself to make a smooth to the touch edge on everything I make even if I know no one will ever touch it.
